A year-long series
FREE INTRODUCTORY SESSION Thursday January 12, 6:30-9:30 PM
From ancient times, certainly before the invention of electric lights and digital clocks, human beings marked the turning of the wheel of the year by observing changes in the natural world. Initially they recognized two main seasons - summer and winter - which were aligned with qualities of light and dark, hot and cold, work and rest. Eventually the seasons of summer and winter were divided into quarters, based upon the increasing/decreasing amount of daylight/darkness observed as the earth made its annual journey around the sun. The four seasons that we mark today are initiated at the times of the Winter and Summer Solstices, and the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes. Celtic peoples went a step further and subdivided each quarter of the year in two, creating an eight-fold Wheel of the Year. The four days in between the solstices and equinoxes are called the cross-quarter days. Each of these markers in this yearly cycle ushers in a new energy which recognizes and honors changes in the natural world. Most of us who live in a hyper-technological environment miss the subtle nuances and wisdom that these transitional tides have to offer us.
In this year-long series of playshops, we will focus our attention on each of the eight turnings of the Wheel of the Year. We will travel around the seasonal circle, gathering inspiration from poetry, story, song, movement, art, and Mother Nature herself. Participants will leisurely create a circular art book to express and honor their own unique dance through this ancient, perennial cycle.
SCHEDULE: I will be offering a Daytime group and an Evening group.

CALLING ALL WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES:
SING THE DEEP SONG OF YOUR WILD SOUL
Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species. Though the gifts of the wildish nature come to us at birth, society's attempt to "civilize" us into rigid roles has plundered this treasure, and muffled the deep, life-giving messages of our own souls. Without Wild Woman, we become over-domesticated, fearful, uncreative, trapped."
"So what is the Wild Woman? From the viewpoint of archetypal psychology as well as from the storytelling tradition, she is the female soul. Yet she is more; she is the source of the feminine. She is all that is of instinct, of the worlds both seen and hidden—she is the basis. We each receive from her a glowing cell which contains all the instincts and knowings needed for our lives."
Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run WIth the Wolves
Clarissa Pinkola Estes' best-selling book, Women Who Run With the Wolves, has been described as a "fertile and life-giving psychology of women in the truest, sense", "a knowing of the soul." In honor of the 20th anniversary if its publication, you are invited to join with a pack of kindred women to share and celebrate our collective wild wisdom. We will use the chapters in WWRWTW as a springboard for discussion, and we will contact our Wildish Selves by examining the fairytales, folktales, legends, and mythos presented in the book. We will engage in the "craft of making," understanding that "art is important for it communicates the seasons of the soul, or a significant event in the soul's journey." (CPE) Through this year-long process of conversation, storytelling, and expressive art processes, including SoulCollage©, we will allow our fabulous tails to fall below our hemlines, try Wild Woman's footprints on for size, and reclaim the deep songs of our unique wild souls.

With Wild Woman as ally, as leader, model, teacher, we see, not through two eyes, but through the eyes of intuition which is many-eyed. When we assert intuition, we are therefore like the starry night: we gaze at the world through a thousand eyes.

INNER LANDSCAPES:
A JOURNEY WITH EXPRESSIVE PAINTING
If you want to discover the images that grow in your heart and soul, do not search in the drawers of the mind. To start a new painting, you need not look inside mental closets; you just need to stand erect in the unknown, in the creative void, in the empty space, open to forms and colors. If you resist the silent space, if you want to know where you are going and what result you are going to get, you, then, would rather live with a fossil of happiness in your pocket than with the untamable flow of life in your blood.
Michele Cassou, in Life,Paint, and Passion
Experience the freedom of creation and intuitive playfulness that you once experienced as a child, before external and internal critics tried to convince you that you are "not an artist." Learn to create from your intuitive self, and free yourself from the demands and expectations of producing a product. Experience an environment of encouragement and reawaken your artist's soul, without concern for results. Create for the sheer joy of expression, and gain access to those secret places inside that have closed themselves off to their longing for expression.
In this playshop, you will not be learning the techniques of painting. You will be invited to let go of your verbal, analytical, and critical self in order to express your inner landscape in shape, form , and color. We will be using non-toxic tempura paints; all materials will be provided.
Tuesdays, February 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM
Cost: $100.00 for 4 sessions

Join with other like-hearted and like-souled women to make cards in community, ask questions, and share insights.
