“…unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must show the world as changeable. And help to change it.” ( Ernst Fischer, The Necessity of Art) Art has the power to change lives. Creating a piece of art can change us as individuals when we express thoughts, feelings and emotions that are too deep for words. Experiencing the creations of others can move us beyond our own small spheres of understanding and bias. Art matters when it concerns itself with issues that matter. Click here for project directions and form. CHANGE THE WORLD BY MAKING ART WHO? YOU! Art-making is a characteristic of being human. Are you human? Then you can make art. WHAT? Create a “Palette for Peace.” Decorate a wooden artist’s palette* by gluing, painting, scribbling, stamping- whatever - your dreams/thoughts/visions for a world at peace. Express you commitment to refocusing all of our nation’s resources on activities that affirm rather than destroy life. *See “Directions” page for suggestions on where to obtain palettes Thousands upon thousands of “Palettes for Peace” (with YOUR help) will be delivered to the next President-elect in November 2008, expressing our mandate for a change in the course of our nation’s priorities. In our wildest imaginations we envision a huge art exhibit of the palettes, a virtual on-line art exhibit, or perhaps the publication of a book. WHERE? Make art in your home, in schools, scout groups, church groups, women’s groups, men’s groups – anywhere you can gather with others and a few simple art materials. Send your “Palettes for Peace” to: “Palettes for Peace” Project WHEN? Make art from now through October 2008. Submission deadline is October 31, 2008 WHY? To unleash an unprecedented “Art Attack” on Washington expressing our demand that wars and violence initiated by our country cease now and forevermore, and that our resources, both human and financial, be redirected from military expenditures to activities that are life-affirming, such as education, housing, healthcare, environmental protection, alternate energy sources, and sustainable living.. The “Palettes for Peace” project is a grass-roots effort that will be a symbolic as well as a graphic record of the voice of the people, a mandate for a change of heart in our nation’s priorities. Art reflects the values we live by – as individuals, as a society, as humankind. Change the world by making art. Click here for project directions and form.
